Attached to his mother ever since his infant days, the fourteen-year-old was devastated when a mysterious illness killed
her. The only item she left him was a mask with rosy cheeks, dark ''eyes'', and red lips. It had been a childhood
plaything until she willed it to her son.
Since Sasha resembled his deceased parent, Pasha viewed him as a painful reminder of her. Pasha used a knife and
whip to horribly disfigure his son so that he wouldn't remind him of his wife any longer. Sasha observed his skeletal
features after his punishment in a mirror before he turned in disgust and loathed mirrors ever since. He used his
mother's mask to conceal his lack of a face until his father tried to take it from him in order to punish him more.
Focusing on Pasha, Sasha gasped the minute his parent seemed weak and collapsed. That was when he discovered his ability
to cause others to weaken if he focused on them.
Although Pasha still loathed his son, he never physically harmed him again after he regained his strength.
Sasha lived with him until he moved out at the age of eighteen. Wishing to escape from his painful past, he moved to
New York where he joined Craig Dragotti's Mafia. He was more than happy to be with other mutants like himself even
though Reynard Schmidt, another button man, often quarreled with him over various things. He remained with the Mafia
until cops found his hideout and arrested him with Reynard. Years passed before he was out of prison and decided to make
amends for his past by joining the X-Men after he heard about them via newspapers.
